the fast pitch bats are lighter and they are also longer too.
for some reason i like using a slow pitch bat when i play because i like the extra weight it has at the end of the bat. a lot of people wouldnt use a slow pitch bat for a fast pitch game but i swing better with it. it all depends on what you are comfortable with.
References :
Fastpitch bats tend to be alot lighter than slowpitch bats, and arent as end loaded, which means it is more evenly weighted. and the weights will be around 32 inches, and 22 ounces, where as a slowpitch bat tends to be about 32-34 inches, and 26-28 ounces.

You could use a fastpitch bat for slowpitch, but using a slowpitch bat for fastpitch wouldnt be the best idea.

good luck =]
References :
select fastpitch player for 8 years.
