Fast can hit fast
Slow can hit slow

In the pitch softball the ball is pitched in an arc so it come down acrss the plate. In fast pitch its just like baseball only the ball is thrown underhanded. I don’t think there is any difference in the bat.

Fastpitch bats are lighter and have a higher drop (the difference between the bat length and weight). The fastpitch bats are also made for balls coming at a higher rate of speed. the slowpitch bats are generally longer and heavier and have a lower drop. and usually have more pop.

There really is no difference.
Per ASA, they all must be 2.250" in diameter, no more than 34" long, nor more than 38 ounces in weight.
Most players choose whatever they feel comfortable with. The big guys usually swing the bigger, heavier bats, while the girls (FP) will usually opt for the lighter/shorter bats. Many fastpitch mens players will swing a big bat also.
It is important you choose a bat which will be legal for the league you intend to play. Most leagues use the ASA bat standards. Here is a link to the ASA website which shows the non-approved bats. There is also a long list of bats which are approved, as well as the standards for a legal bat.

br549 has a lot of good things to say which are valid. Indeed you will need to make sure you purchase a bat that is approved for play in the leagues you play in.
There are however many differences between FastPitch and Slowpitch bats. Yes they do have to meet certain standards, but the features between them are quite different. Indeed like some other answer say, FP bats are often lighter and of varying lengths. If you play FP go with a FP bat. There is no reason to swing a SP bat in FP games unless you are really strong or a big guy. The FP bats have lots of different barrel sizes (barrel lengths not diameters), weights, bat lengths and such for FP players.
Keep a heads up for Balances vs End Loaded. Depending on what kind of hitter you are, which hitting technique you use, you’ll want to buy a different kind of balanced bat and different weight differentials.
