Before you play with it in a game, you need to take it to batting practice...
take about 30-60 pitches and every 3 or 4 hits, rotate the bat a little, it helps break it in all over, and extends the sweet spot

to me it sounds like a technique you use to get used to the bat....practicing rollover swings as well as cutter swings...slices...power swings etc.....it doesn't really break your bat in but it gets your arms used to the bat...so i guess it breaks your arms into the bat.....

the only other thing i can think of is that "rolling a bat" is done at the manufacturer's area when they make the bats...to give them their forms and their density's....i'm not too positive that you...the buyer can roll a bat...unless you roll it on the grass or something....

I know what you are talking about. With a softball bat it is actually a term used to break in the bat head. If you do it right you can add extra pop to the bat. Done wrong and you get a flat spot and ruin the bat. There are professionals that offer this service. There used to be a guy on ebay who did it for around 20 bucks. and others who sold the machine blueprints. Just do it the old fashioned way if you can't find a guy who knows what he is doing. But if you are brave you can use a towel and a large shop vise. You put the head ( large portion ) of the bat in the vise after wrapping it in a towel and pressed it. You keep rotating it until you have pressed the whole circumfrence of the bat head. That is how they do it. Don't pressed it too much or walah.....flat spots.

I am in no way responsilbe for what happens to your bat.

Good Luck

if there is a dent in the outside of the bat then you have gone to far, it will become an illegal bat and the umpire will not allow you to use it anymore. my husband and some of his friends actually took a hammer to one and hit a tree with the other to get their "spot" right. there are a lot of tecniques that can make a better spot. the best thing to do though is to just tighten as tight as you can along different spots on the bat that way you crack the inside but leave no dents on the outside other than a few scratches that the ump cant tell what they are from

Good question. Go to your local sporting goods store and pick up the different ones and take some practice swings. Use one that you can swing comfortably and feels right in your hands. Proper is what works for you. There's no set size.
